Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine stated that the US would provide political, military and economic stance. It was brought up in a speech given by President Harry Truman. President Truman came up with this idea after the British said they would no longer provide military and economic help to Greek government against the Greek communist party. He had asked the Congress to help both the Greek government and Turkey because they were both dependent on British aid. "In light of the deteriorating relationship with the Soviet Union and the appearance of Soviet meddling in Greek and Turkish affairs, the withdrawal of British assistance to Greece provided the necessary catalyst for the Truman Administration to reorient American foreign policy." This quote is stating that British stepping away from providing help was necessary to rebuild or remake the foreign policy.
